How To Choose a Diamond

1) UNDERSTAND THE 4CS OF DIAMOND QUALITY
2) CHOOSE A TRAINED JEWELER
3) ASK FOR A DIAMOND GRADING REPORT
4) KEEP YOUR PURCHASE SECURE

1) UNDERSTAND THE 4CS OF DIAMOND QUALITY

The 4Cs of Diamond Quality is the universal method for assessing the quality of any diamond, anywhere in the world. It will provide you with the information you need to know the diamond’s actual quality, which will also help you understand the diamond’s value and price. The factors that define the 4Cs are Color, Clarity, Cut, and Carat.

  • Diamond Color refers to the absence of color. The less color in the stone, the more desirable and valuable it is. Some of these differences are not visible to the naked eye, but directly impact the overall quality and price of the stone. Grades range from ‘D ' to 'Z'.
  • Diamond Clarity measures the amount, size, and placement of internal ‘inclusions,’ and external ‘blemishes.’ Grades range from ‘Flawless', with virtually no imperfections, to ‘Included', which contain a significant number of imperfections.
  • Diamond Cut does not refer to a diamond’s shape, but to the proportion and arrangement of its facets and the quality of workmanship. The amount of brilliance, sparkle, and fire in a diamond is determined by the cut. Grades range from ‘Excellent’ to ‘Poor'.
  • Diamond Carat refers to a diamond’s weight. Generally speaking, the higher the carat weight, the more expensive the stone. Two diamonds of equal carat weight, however, can have very different quality and price when the other three Cs are considered.

2) CHOOSE A TRAINED JEWELER

Choose a jeweler as carefully as you do a doctor, lawyer or any other trained professional. Your jeweler should be educated, and preferably credentialed with professional training from a highly-recognized and internationally accredited program, providing a degree of a Graduate Gemologist (G.G.). Only those who are truly serious about their jewelry career and have a deep-rooted passion for the industry, pursue a G.G. degree. It is not all that common to find a trained gemologist using the proper gemological equipment, in fact, most jewelers don’t even examine the gems they sell.

Use GIA’s Retailer Lookup, it is an excellent way for customers to ensure their trust in finding retail jewelry stores carrying diamonds graded by GIA or employing GIA-trained staff. Riginov is proud to be part of GIA's Official Retailers and have our name listed on the GIA network. At Riginov, we believe your investment deserves the guidance of a highly-trained professional. You will have the opportunity to work with someone who truly knows the business. With our Graduate Gemologist, Mrs. Sivan R., you will immediately notice the difference once meeting her. She knows the product, the geology, the science behind it and knows how to capture your vision when it comes to finding the perfect fit for you and your budget. She will fully explain the 4Cs of Diamond Quality and will provide answers to all of your questions.

3) ASK FOR A DIAMOND GRADING REPORT

Always ask for a diamond grading report, also known as a certificate. It is a document issued from a licensed gemological laboratory which describes the quality characteristics of a diamond. As a consumer, the report helps you understand what you are buying and enables you to justify its value and the price you should be paying. The GIA Diamond Grading Report is your assurance for a confident purchase. It provides a description of the diamond’s 4Cs and confirms whether the diamond is natural or synthetic. It also discloses if the diamond may have undergone any treatments to alter its color or clarity. Please note that a report is not to be compared with an appraisal.

We at Riginov offer our customers only authentic, natural diamonds, sealed and certified by GIA. Sealing is an extra assurance which guarantees that a given certificate and the corresponding diamond belong together. The sealing is tamper-proof and will immediately show once opened. Customers can also access our online diamonds inventory directly to purchase natural diamonds at competitive wholesale prices and view their GIA certification.

4) KEEP YOUR PURCHASE SECURE

The GIA Diamond Grading Report comes with a unique GIA report number, which is also inscribed on the diamond’s girdle. The inscription is viewable using a jeweler’s loupe or microscope under 10X magnification. A laser inscription will help identify your diamond if it’s ever lost or stolen. To provide an additional level of assurance, with GIA Report Check service, customers can quickly and conveniently confirm that the information on the report of the diamond they are buying, matches what is archived in the GIA report database. Use your GIA report number to look up your report results online.

GIA REPORT CHECK

You should also have your diamond appraised and insured. An appraisal is a document stating the estimated retail value of the purchase and is important for insurance purposes as well as for future upgrades or possible resale. Riginov fully understands how important the purchase of a diamond, colored gemstone or jewelry is to every customer. Therefore we will provide you with a professional appraisal document signed by our qualified appraiser for each item sold at no extra charge. In this way, customers can be assured of the authenticity of the product they are purchasing. Please note that an appraisal is not to be compared with a certificate.
