Het Gebaar is a Michelin-star restaurant by chef Roger Van Damme, located at the peaceful Botanical Garden in the heart of Antwerp. Het Gebaar offers a fancy lunchtime experience that represents perfection from A to Z. The kitchen is inventive and follows the traditional Belgian-French classics cuisine as well as molecular cuisine. The chef manages to turn every dessert into a culinary art piece that burst with taste, each with a concept behind it. The composition of not ordinary desserts requires about 15minutes work per plate.
A definite must is the chef’s signature dish “Komedieplaats”. A work of art with that is inspired and composed of figures that refer to the brands Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Delvaux, which are located in the Komedieplaats in Antwerp. You can’t describe it better than it appears on the menu: “The dessert for fashionistas”. It is so beautifully presented that you would hardly dare to eat it. There are also some classics such as pancakes, Crème Brûlée and Dame Blanche, which are refined by Roger to a higher level.
Chef Roger Van Damme is well known as the number one for avant-garde desserts. His love for patisserie and sense of perfectionism are the perfect match. Over the years his career has developed from pastry chef to star chef. He was also chosen "Chef of the Year" by Gault Millau in 2009. Since his broadcasts on the Dutch cooking tv-channel Njam, the whole of Flanders regularly enjoys its works of art.
Please note that the restaurant is only open for lunch, and booking your table is recommended. During the summer months, you can also enjoy the pleasant ambiance in their terrace. Het Gebaar is a culinary experience that just can't be missed.
